Canon Hat - Free 30's Art Deco Ladies Hat Knitting Pattern

Inspired by the head wear of 30’s, I designed this hat for my mom during her chemo therapy. I didn’t want to make a “traditional” chemo cap, I wanted her to feel fancy even though she had lost all her hair.

Pattern starts!

 

Bow and brim

Using the long needles, CO 100 st, using long tail cast on method.

Work 7 rows of garter stitch.

Next row: BO 20 sts, k 60, mark the last st with some scrap yarn, BO 20 sts, cut yarn, turn.

 

Body

Switch to dpn’s

Start knitting from the marked st.

K to end of row, do not turn, start to working in the round, careful not to twist.

K one round.

P one round,

K two rounds.

Rep these three rounds 13 times or until you reached the desired length.

 

Crown

Dec rnds:

P one round,

[PM, k10] rep to the end of rnd.

[SM, k2tog, k to M] rep to the end of rnd.

P one round,

K one round.

Rep these 3 rnds until 4 sts remain between markers.

[Remove M, k2tog, k2] rep to the end of rnd.

K2tog to the end of rnd. Cut yarn and thread through stitches left, make a loop and pull yarn through.

 

Finishing

Sew in lose ends.

Tie a bow with the strips and enjoy your work!
